First of all, I’d just like to say, for the record, that
Warhammer 40k came first. Don’t get me wrong I like Starcraft just as much as
the next guy, but to suggest that it is on par with Warhammer would simply be
heresy.
To that end, today has been a good day. Warhammer 40000: Space
Marine has a booth at NYCC. As part of their
publicity they have hired a very large well-built man to walk around in full
freaking Space Marine armor, complete with bolter and chain sword all weekend
at the convention. The outfit has sigils, marks of purity, and of course a
chain sword. And just in case I haven’t been clear: Chain sword.
I was lucky enough to see these gentlemen unpacking the
10x8x6 foot crate housing the Space Marine armor. The gentleman was unwrapping
one of the boots, which was nearly as tall as he was, and I stopped to watch
the armor pieces come out of the crate one at a time. We got to talking and I
was not only invited back into the changing room, but also handed a bolter.
On a totally unrelated note, I noticed that while I was
holding the bolter, it was only a good 5 feet to the door, and that these men
were currently holding many and various cumbersome objects.
There will also be a fully clad, just as large ork.
After I came to, I visited with Ryan Sohmer briefly and went in search of Tommy Castillo. I am not sure
if Tommy will be attending or not, but I wish him well if he was unable to make
it.
NYCC has already proven to
be a glorious con, and it hasn’t even started yet.
